Editorial Policy

Original reporting

Every story on Top Stories UG is our own reporting. We do not copy or rewrite articles from other outlets. When another outlet breaks a story first, we say so and link to it.

Accuracy and fact-checking

We check facts about named people with at least one reliable source before we publish. When a story contains allegations, we contact the person or organisation involved and include their response.

• If someone could not be reached, we say so in the story.
• Before a death or disaster is confirmed, we write “reports indicate” and name the source.
• We never name minors, or victims of sexual offences, and never show their faces.
• We do not open comments on court cases, allegations against named people or stories involving minors.

Corrections

If you think we have got something wrong, tell us. We review every correction request within 24 hours and update the story when we find an error. We keep a full revision history of every story.

Independence

Advertisers do not influence what we cover or how we cover it. Ads are placed automatically by Google and are never presented as news.

Images and credits

Every image carries a caption and a credit. We use our own photos, free stock credited to the photographer (never to show a specific real event), or images used with the owner’s permission. When a social media post is the source, we embed the original. We never use photos from other news outlets, and we replace an image within 24 hours of a copyright complaint.
