Jinja residents protest water rationing as dry spell bites

Residents of several Jinja neighbourhoods have protested against water rationing that has left taps dry for days at a time.

National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) says a long dry spell has lowered water levels at its intake.

Some families say they now pay up to UGX 1,000 for a jerrycan from private vendors.

NWSC says it is drilling boreholes and will publish a supply timetable for each area.

Police said the protest ended peacefully after local leaders addressed the crowd.
