Lango Province edge Bunyoro 1-0 to reach FUFA Drum final

Lango Province advanced to the FUFA Drum final with a narrow 1-0 win over Bunyoro Province in the second leg of their semi-final on Saturday, 3 October 2026, securing a 1-0 aggregate victory after a goalless first leg.

The return leg at Royal’s Park, Butema stayed tight until Emmanuel Okech broke the deadlock in the 86th minute. Official match updates from the competition account listed the goal as Okech’s, and the full-time score stood at Bunyoro Province 0-1 Lango Province.

That single strike was enough. The sides had drawn 0-0 in the first leg, played in late September at Dokolo Technical Institute, so Lango went through 1-0 on aggregate and kept their title defence alive.

Lango head coach Bob Obira said the second leg was a response to wasted chances a week earlier.

“It feels good and we are very happy to again go to the finals,” Obira said. “At the first game we were unlucky because we got many chances, around seven chances, but we didn’t utilise them. This time we studied them, their weaknesses and strong points.”

He added: “Then now we have at least gotten a win. We are going to be the winners again.”

Midfielder Saidi Mayanja was named man of the match.

The result sends Lango into a third FUFA Drum final, after previous appearances in 2022 and 2023/24. In 2022 they beat Tooro Province 3-2 on aggregate, with Allan Okello scoring the decisive penalty in a 1-0 return-leg win at Akii-Bua Stadium. In 2023/24 they beat West Nile Province 2-1 on aggregate, Denis Omedi scoring both goals in a 2-0 home win before West Nile won the return leg 1-0 in Arua.

Lango’s opponent will come from the other semi-final. Buganda Province host Acholi Province on Sunday, 4 October 2026 at Lugazi in Buikwe District. Acholi take a 2-1 aggregate lead into that second leg after winning the first leg 2-1 at Booma Grounds in Kitgum, where Achidi Simon scored and an Apollo Kagwogwe own goal separated the sides after Vianne Ssekajugo had equalised for Buganda.

The FUFA Drum, played under the banner Celebrating Our Ancestry, is the federation’s inter-provinces competition. Buganda are the inaugural winners; Lango are the reigning champions. The last four also included Bunyoro, who had reached the semis with a 1-0 aggregate win over West Nile, and Acholi, who came through a penalty shootout against Busoga.

A place in the final is now Lango’s. Who joins them will be decided in Lugazi.
